A Special Message from CJAG’s President, Over the past several years the Criminal Justice Association of Georgia (CJAG) has proven to be a successful professional association for higher education Criminal Justice faculty in the state of Georgia and other interested persons. There have been four successful annual meetings, each held in conjunction with the BOR Criminal Justice Academic Advisory Committee’s annual meeting and, for purposes of economics, with the Georgia Political Science Association. At the last two meetings of CJAG there were six panels, requiring a second day to handle them all, and the presentations were well attended. The success of the organization led to the approval at the last meeting (November 15, 2003) for incorporating CJAG as a non-profit corporation in order to maintain formal accountability and responsibility in the management of funds. I am happy to report to you that CJAG was incorporated effective November 29, 2003, through the Office of the Secretary of State of Georgia. This announcement was delayed due to follow-up paperwork requirements by the state and due to the holidays. CJAG is now ready for you to join as a member of this new legal entity. So many of you have been active in CJAG over the past several years. I urge you to join now and receive a certificate showing that you are a founding member. The offer of the certificate with a membership is good for anyone who joins up to and including May 7th. Dues as determined at the last CJAG meeting are only $10 (if you are a student, $5). Membership extends from the last meeting through the November 2004 meeting and until the November 2005 annual meeting. You can join at any time, of course, and if you join at the coming November meeting, your dues will be good for a year. The funds will initially be used for setting up an award system for students presenting at CJAG, paying a small annual incorporation fee, and the like. Please use the attached form to become a founding member. Thank you, and I am looking forward to seeing you at our CJAG meeting Nov. 11, 2004 at the attractive Mulberry Inn in Savannah. Sincerely, Hill Harper, |
